High Priority Winterim Internship Info for Juniors and Seniors
NOW is the time to think about planning internships and making contact with prospective internship hosts. In addition to the excellent contacts you may have in the Chicagoland area, be mindful of those contacts you have outside the area. Whether it is a grandparent, former neighbor, cousin, older brother/sister, or just a business contact, most opportunities for internships come from personal contacts. Deadlines for Winterim scheduling will arrive more quickly than expected, so begin NOW.
Please note the following deadlines:
September 26: Winterim Internship Application DUE
October 24: Internship Contract DUE
Download forms and additional instructions here.
Questions regarding internships may be directed to Trish Main, Winterim Internship Coordinator, at tmain@wheatonacademy.org during the summer months.
Band, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble Retreat
The Instrumental Music retreat is on Saturday, August 9th. Parents, you should have received a permission slip in the mail. Please return it to Mr. Willemssen at WA by July 25. If you have not received this mailing, please contact Steve Willemssen at 630-562-7509 or swillemssen@wheatonacademy.org. We are looking forward to a great time together!
WA Web: The New Online Academic Information Center
This spring we introduced WA Web through online course registration. Watch for exciting opportunities to partner with us as we unveil the expansion of our new online portal to student and parent information for the 2008-2009 school year. WA Web will replace Edline for accessing grades, assignments, schedules and much more. Please be aware that as of June 30, Edline is no longer available. Stay tuned for more information at the start of the new school year!
Graduation 2008 DVD: Last Call!!
We’ve extended the order deadline for the Graduation 2008 DVD so that no one misses out on this once-in-a lifetime opportunity! Order forms are available in the front office. The cost of one DVD is $30. If you purchase two or more, the DVDs are $20 each.
Send in your order form and check/cash to Dawn Earl at WA. Checks should be made payable to Wheaton Academy. E-mail Dawn at dearl@wheatonacademy.org with any questions. NOTE: These graduation DVDs will be distributed with the 2007-08 yearbook at Homecoming 2008 (October 3-5).
Sophomore Summer Reading: Lord of the Flies
To guide your reading and understanding of Lord of the Flies this summer, Mr. D. has created a website specifically designed for you. Due to the hasty arrival of the Little D Twins the site is still under construction, but there is plenty of information to guide your reading, answer some questions, and inspire thoughtful interaction with the story.
The site is http://web.mac.com/isursumcorda (no "www").
Guatemala/Honduras update
There are still 2 spots available for the Winterim Trip to Guatemala & Honduras. If you have any interest, call Profe Rosario Stewart at 630-876-3447 for more details.

Fond Farewells
This summer, Wheaton Academy will say goodbye to four Living Curriculum educators.
Rachel Brooke, Admissions Assistant, will be teaching art classes at Wheaton Christian Grammar School in the fall.
Markus Berger, Math Teacher and Assistant Football Coach, has taken a teaching position at Katy High School in Texas. He will be taking a year off from coaching football but looks forward to coaching at Katy HS in the future. Katy has one of the top four football programs in the state of Texas.
Dave Pacheco, Communications Coordinator, has taken the position of Director of Youth Ministries at the Delaware Grace Brethren Church in Delaware, Ohio.
Kathy Burns, Administrative Assistant to the Principal, will be moving to a familiar role at a new school. She will be the Principal’s Secretary at Glenbard East High School in Lombard.
We thank these four for their service to the students and families of Wheaton Academy and wish them well in their new ventures.
