Instrumental
Welcome to Instrumental Music at Wheaton Academy! WA offers three curricular instrumental
ensembles: Band, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble.
Co-curricular opportunities include
Academy Jazz, Academy Strings, Pep Band, and Pit Orchestra. Other course offerings include
Honors Music Theory and Composition & Songwriting.
In addition to campus concerts and events, WA Instrumental students regularly perform off
campus to serve others, and an out-of-state spring tour is a highlight of the year. Students
have the opportunity to participate in IMEA district and state festivals and IHSA Solo & Ensemble
contest.
Curricular ensembles are auditioned groups of ninth through twelfth grade students. Since its
inception in 1995, the Instrumental Music program has been an extension of the school’s conviction that we, as Christians, are to use our God-given talents to glorify God. While some
of the graduates of the program have studied at the Wheaton Conservatory and Juilliard School,
the program is expressly designed to allow students to determine the depth of their pursuit of
instrumental music while also allowing them to be involved in other areas of high school life.
Many of the students are athletes, and many also choose to participate in various other Fine
Arts and co-curricular groups at the school.
As we pursue excellence in musicianship, service, and community for God’s glory, it is our
prayer that God, “who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose” (Phil.
2:13), would bless our program for the sake of lasting fruit in our lives and in the world around
us.
